River City Roadside Service offers  full battery  Diagnostic  testing  To perform a comprehensive diagnostic test on  car battery, our technicians  assess several key aspects. Here's a breakdown of the steps involved:

1. Visual Inspection:

Check the terminals: Look for corrosion (a white or bluish powdery buildup) around the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals. Clean them with a wire brush and a solution of baking soda and water if necessary. Ensure the connections are tight.

Inspect the battery case: Check for any cracks, swelling, or leaks. Physical damage can indicate a failing battery.

Examine the electrolyte level For non-sealed batteries with removable caps, check the fluid level in each cell. It should be above the lead plates. If low, add distilled water (never tap water the appropriate level.

 2. Open Circuit Voltage Test (Resting Voltage):

This test tells  our technicians  the battery's state of charge. You'll need a multimeter for this.

Turn off the engine and all accessories.

Wait for at least 15-30 minutes after the engine has been running to eliminate surface charge (a temporary voltage increase immediately after charging).

multimeter to the DC voltage setting (usually indicated by "V" with a straight line and a dashed line underneath). Select a range above 15 volts if it's not an auto-ranging multimeter. Voltage  reading should bearound  12.6 volts or higher: Fully charged and in good condition.

12.4 to 12.5 volts: 75-90% charged; consider recharging.

12.2 to 12.3 volts: 50-75% charged; needs recharging.

Below 12.0 volts: Significantly discharged; may need recharging or replacement.
